The Senior Spanish II Class recently attended the Hispanic-Flamenco Ballet production of Hispanic American Song and Dance at the Hutchinson School in Memphis. The students went on a whirlwind tour exploring the culture and history of Hispanic countries from the Caribbean, Central and South America. The students experienced the fusion of Spanish Colonial and Native American traditions reflected in the Mexican Jarabe-Tapatio; the African influence represented in the Colombian Cumbia, exciting Caribbean Salsa and Merengue; the intense Argentinean Tango; the intricate footwork of Malambo; the rhythmic bombos (Drums); the spectacular magic of Boleadores, and many more.
